One highlight of Lewis County is the The Tug Hill Plateau, a winter enthusiast’s dream come true! The Plateau gets the most snowfall East of the Rockies with an average of 250+ inches a winter. Snowmobiling at its finest. Kite skiing events are growing on the plateau due to the abundance of wind and snow.
Lewis County is also home of the Maple Ridge Wind Farm, the largest wind farm east of the Mississippi.
In the summer months, visitors can enjoy mountain biking, ATV riding, canoeing, fishing, hiking, bird watching and golf, just to name a few.
Old Forge, New York and the Central Adirondack Region offers much for the vacationer during all seasons. In the summer we are pleased to offer all kinds of activities including; boating, golf, water skiing, fishing, canoeing, hiking, swimming and mountain biking.
Adirondack Lakes Country, includes: The St. Regis Wilderness Canoe Area, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Paul Smiths and
Malone. The home of Big Tupper and Titus Mountains, sporting 150" of snowfall a year. Numerous lodging packages are
available for golf, canoeing, hiking, fishing and skiing.

Adirondack Organizations and Agencies
Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH) is the private, non-profit , historic preservation for New York State's
Adirondack Park. AARCH's education mission is to promote better public understanding, appreciation, and stewardship of the region's distinct architecture, historic places, and special communities. AARCH fulfills its mission by sponsoring tours, workshops, public lectures, programs in the public schools, through publications, by offering technical assistance, via public-private partnerships, and through effective advocacy. AARCH is a membership organization with more than 1000 engaged and active members.
The Adirondack Experience offers academic and experiential opportunities that promote recreation in the natural environment as a setting for intellectual and personal growth.
The Adirondack Mountain Club -- ADK -- is dedicated to the protection and responsible recreational use of the New York
State Forest Preserve, parks and other wild lands and waters. The Club, founded in 1922, is a member-directed organization committed to public service and stewardship. ADK employs a balanced approach to outdoor recreation, advocacy, environmental education and natural resource conservation.
The Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) is a 14-county association in New York’s North Country that is
committed to economic improvement.
The Adirondack Park Agency is an independent, bipartisan state agency responsible for developing long-range Park policy in a forum that balances statewide concerns and the interests of local governments in the Park.
The New York State Adirondack Park Agency operates the Visitor Interpretive Centers in Paul Smiths and Newcomb.Open
year-round, the facilities serve the 6 million-acre Park as environmental education and traveler orientation centers.

This year we celebrate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of French explorer Samuel de Champlain on Lake Champlain. The towns and villages lining Lake Champlain will soon be flying the ExploreNY 400 flag as designated Quadricentennial

The 147-mile New York section of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail traverses the heart of the Adirondack Park, from Old
Forge and the intimate Fulton Chain of Lakes to the dramatic Saranac River that opens into Lake Champlain at Plattsburgh. This nationally recognized water trail traces Native American travel routes and represents a series of interconnected kayak and canoe destinations.
